At this Stage

At This Stage premiered on April 17, 2017, as part of the opening night celebration of Ballet Across America, curated by Misty Copeland and Justin Peck.


MADIBA

One of the newest works from Jeremy McQueen's The Black Iris Project, MADIBA, is a socially-relevant classical ballet based on the life of humanitarian and political icon Nelson "Madiba" Mandela that takes his experience as an avid activist and encourages others to discover the value and purpose in their lives just as he did, despite his 27-year prison sentence.


Ballet Across America

Our celebration of innovation and diversity in American ballet returns, this season curated by stars Justin Peck and Misty Copeland, who'll explore ideas central to the John F. Kennedy centennial with several companies across multiple programs. The week begins with a spectacular opening night celebration spotlighting two world premiere commissions among the performances along with several special guests.

The Schomburg

Founded in 2016 by choreographer Jeremy McQueen, The Black Iris Project is a ballet collaborative and education vehicle which creates new, relevant classical ballet works that celebrate diversity and black history. Based in New York City, the project hosts a team of predominantly minority artists who deliver cross-discipline, original works.
